Due to licensing and political censorship, GoG does not provide unrestricted access to the full catalog of games. The region blocks are easily circumvented though.
This does not concern regional price differences, as you need to change your IP to purchase products for the price of that region.
When a game is unavailable in a region, it will not appear in the search results and trying to access its page directly will redirect the user to the search page instead. To circumvent this, we'll modify a certain cookie to represent a region in which the game is available. (Once purchased, your game will show up in your collection regardless of with region you're in.)
These instructions are for Mozilla Firefox.
- start Firefox and go to GoG.com
- open the developer tools (F12) and navigate to the Storage tab
- select the Cookies section in the sidebar on the left
- look for the cookie named
gog_lcand update its value to a locale representing an uncensored region (e.g.US_USD_en-USinstead ofDE_EUR_de-DE)
Please refer to the chart below to find out which regions are and aren't censored and which locale corresponds to which region.
Tip
The gog_lc cookie will be overwritten with the correct locale for your region when you visit the checkout page, therefore it's recommended you put all blocked games into your cart before continuing to checkout. You can still purchase the games in your cart with the correct locale for your region, even though they are supposed to be unavailable.
To see blocked game pages or search results after visiting the checkout page, you need to modify the cookie again.
Note
This chart doesn't list all valid locales. Most regions support multiple locales due to the availability of an additional, local currency and/or language. However, since USD and en-US are supported by all regions, only locales made up of those parts and the given region's respective country code appear in the list.
