Importing messages doesn't work #319

How did you install the app?

Steps to reproduce the bug

  1. Go on the message app on the first phone
  2. Go in the parameters
  3. Scroll down
  4. Click on "Export messages"
  5. A JSON file is created
  6. Transfer this file to the new smartphone
  7. Go in the message app on the second phone
  8. Go in the parameters
  9. Scroll down
  10. Click on "Import messages"
  11. Click on the JSON file

Expected behavior

The file should be imported, as should the messages

Actual behavior

A message appears with a JAVA error

Have you set Fossify Messages as the default messaging app on your new phone?

I'm asking because of this comment: #169 (comment)

Yes, it is set as the default app on both phones

Okay, could you double check whether the app has all the required permissions?

So this just happened to me to, though my backup is stored on a XML file from the (now dead) Silence app export

@IhnnChocoFarms We don't support importing backups from other apps. See: #164.
