Affected app version

1.0.0

Affected Android/Custom ROM version

Android 13

Affected device model

Fairphone 4

How did you install the app?

F-Droid / IzzyOnDroid

Steps to reproduce the bug

  1. Browse to "WhatsApp voice notes" folder via file browser
  2. Enter one of the subfoldrrs and press on file named "PTT-xxxxxxxx-WAzzzz.opus
  3. If prompted to select app, select Fossify Music-Player

Alternatively download the test file and perform same steps

Expected behavior

Music player should open and play the file.

Actual behavior

Music player opens but does not show the file and doesn't play it.

Screenshots/Screen recordings

screen-20250117-203923.mp4.2.mp4

Additional information

The file can be played in VLC, spotify, youtube music.

Seems that it happens only with the opus files created by WhatsApp with the PTT prefix. For example this older file plays as all other files.

When you open Music Player, do you see the directory where the PTT recording is?

  1. If you can see this directory, can Music Player play this file?
    a. If it can, try to do again the same steps as in your video. Does it work now?
  2. If you can't see this directory, please copy this file to another directory that is visible in Music Player and try to play it again.
    a. First, try to open it from another app to Music Player, like in the video.
    b. Second, try to play it directly from Music Player. Does it work?

OK so following your questions I started playing around with things and stumbled upon the culprit - the WhatsApp Voice Notes folders contain, for some reason, a file named .nomedia, which I guess prevents Music Player from playing files in that folder. When files are moved to another folder, or this file is removed, the problem disappears.

I've created a more generic bug report for it: #114.
