Grass really adds a lot to the visuals so it should be part of generated terrain.
Grass should work with "blocks" units meaning you can either cut or add grass to a block but nothing smaller.
The most performant method to display grass is probably gpu instancing but we're still missing it for the normal blocks so it'll wait.
