Selecting multiple states

If I wanted to allow selection of multiple states how would I do that? In the issues, I see there is a solution for getting a state to stay on the active color even after it is clicked, however, that state changes once you pick a different state. If I wanted to user to select more than one state and keep their active states available, how could that be done? Thanks everyone in advance!
