No values or text visible in browser

I am using chromium on Ubuntu 16.04 - after starting up npm start monitor-dashboard from within the node_modules/monitor-dashboard dir of my app (what was unexpected, see other issue) I point the browser to localhost:4200 and see only a black background. Viewing at the code shows that there is some html and js emitted and probably this is some css f*up. It would be great if you checked this interesting app with more recent web browsers, thanks!
