Description

Since npm 5.7.1, new ci command was introduced.

https://github.com/npm/npm/blob/latest/doc/cli/npm-ci.md

The benefits are:

Be consistent installing from the lock file instead of package.json
It will boost the speed 2x-10x than the npm install (described on npm release log)
