GitHub doesn't allow pages on private repositories after reverification of student developer pack

Hi everyone,

I have GitHub pro through the GitHub student developer pack. It used to allow me to host GitHub pages on private repos. Recently, my plan expired, and I had to reverify by submitting my student ID card again. My verification was approved on Feb 4, 2025. Now I have GitHub pro again, but all my pages on private repos are failing. It tells me "Your billing plan does not support private pages. To restore this page, change its visibility to public or upgrade your billing plan." But I do have GitHub pro now and it shows the little "pro" label next to my name. Did GitHub stop allowing pages on private repos for those using the Student Dev Pack? Or am I missing some step?

Ok I just tested with a new private repo and it looks like it's fixed. I don't know what happened but as long as it works, it works. 🤷

Does it work for existing private repos?

(Asking since I have the same problem and trying to figure out what's happening)

Even existing repos seem to be working now. I don't know what happened. I was in a hurry that day and I just made one of my repos public. Now I made that repo private as well and it still seems to be working.

Now it tells me "Caution: This repository is private but the published site will be public" which is what it used to say and what it is supposed to say.

Maybe you just need to wait for a day.

Yeah, it seems closer to ~3 days but it re-activated itself. Most pages turned themselves back on.

Bothers me it took so long since there is a subdomain takeover risk they open students to.

Yeah true. But I don't think that can happen if your domain is verified. Right?
