owncloud losing files! #4503

I put my gnucash folder in ownCloud and I'm losing data! I tried this right after ownCloud was released and ended up moving the folder back out of ownCloud because I was losing files syncing between two machines. At this point I just have my laptop syncing with my server and I'm missing data. Gnucash creates logfiles and rewrites the main file regularily. While working in gnucash when an auto-save happens I see a notification from owncloud the gnucash.gnucash has been removed even though that's the file that I'm currently editing. I assumed this was because gnucash had done a rename, but I just went back to my gnucash file now and everything that I put into my accounts is gone and I see that the logfiles from that date are missing.

I'm using owncloud 5.0.4 on Debian Linux for the server and the client is 5.0.4 on Ubuntu.

5.0.4 is really outdated. The latest version is 5.0.10 and we did a ton of fixes in the meantime. Can you please try the latest server version? I'm also not sure about your client version. The client version numbers are 1.2 or 1.3 or 1.4
I would recommend to try 1.3 and the latest beta (1.4 beta2) Sorry for the trouble.

Client is 1.3.0. I checked my server version and it's 5.0.9, not 5.0.4, sorry about that. I've got conflict files in my directory, but no other machine is syncing with the folder, so I don't understand how there can be conflicts.

I'm not sure when I'll try it again. I need to go back through my backups and restore the appropriate files to get my finances straightened out.
