i haven't been able to get airsonos to run on a newish ubuntu - but it's running fine on macos (home theatre is a mac mini anyway).
it doesn't seem to be geared to be synchronized to video output - but if there's any way to mess with buffer sizes - i would love to see how close to acceptable delays i can go. by default, it seems there's a total of 2-3 seconds delay. assuming a "good" network, this is probably a bit much.
any pointers?

You're right - sync with video is not good right now. I'm thinking implementing the timing protocol in nodetunes may fix this, but it's not immediately clear what the issue is (i.e. I don't think it's just buffer sizes, but something in the protocol I'm missing). I'm closing this as a duplicate of #44, but feel free to discuss this further there.
