Is your feature request related to a problem?

It would be great to have an option to get rid of red counter on telegram systray icon:

2019-10-27-184910_29x27_scrot

The idea is to don't distract yourself more than you want to be distracted (especially with minimized notifications options).

Describe the solution you'd like

Add above-mentioned option and remove red counter.

Describe alternatives you've considered

There are two workarounds at the moment:

  1. Disable systray icon at all. Cons: if you have to minimize Telegram you should close it. And then you have to wait till it starts (could be long if you have to use Proxy in your country).
  2. Mute all contacts without exclusion. Isn't easy to maintain that setup.

Additional context

Why is so important to have option to not have red counter and decrease distraction? Tristan Harris former Product Philosopher at Google has explained.

Hey there!

This issue will be automatically closed in 7 days if there would be no activity. We therefore assume that the user has lost interest or resolved the problem on their own.

Don't worry though; if this is an error, let us know with a comment and we'll be happy to reopen the issue.

Thanks!

This red badge overlap Telegram logo. I can't understand what is this? Skype? Telegram? or other app?
Why needed know number of messages? It doesn't change anything, but it spoils the whole style.
1 msg or 1400 msg... who cares?

@varlesh your overlap is quite large, mine is very small compared to yours:

EDIT: After downgrading to get the "before" image and upgrading back to 2.5.1, it looks just like the "before" image again.

EDIT 2: It's back to the hideous difficult to see black-on-black plus blinding red-and-white, though I'm still using 2.5.1.

EDIT 3: I'm noticing that aside from the unwanted counter in unfriendly colors, the scheme-dependent color rendering of the themed icon has stopped working. Before I didn't even realize the themed icon was being used, because it's so hard to see black on black.

Adding the effect of upgrading from 2.4.7 to 2.5.1 in my context. Before:

After (currently):

This is using the Tela icon theme, on plasma desktop.

Does a new issue need to be opened for the regression of failing to use the user's theme for the tray icon, or does this issue cover that problem?

I have same problem with the distracting red point
