Is there a possibility that, for image sizes not exceeding the thumbnail size, the thumbnail could be sized according to the image itself? For example, a 16×16 icon saved as a .png file yields a 16×16 pixel thumbnail in Explorer’s Large Icons view. That is, the thumbnail shows precisely what the image looks like without scaling it up to fit the available space (although this approach causes Explorer to keep changing the icon spacing, and it’s best used with icon shadow turned off in WinAero Tweaker). The same 16×16 icon saved as .svg/.svgz will show a full 96×96 pixel thumbnail. That means that the thumbnail is no longer representative of what the image looks like in normal usage.
Just a thought, now that I am gradually moving over to using .svgz for all icons.
