Is switching to dart-sass and option, for a better maintained and guaranteed conformant upstream? It supposedly "is the primary implementation of Sass" and it comes with a "pure JavaScript sass package on npm".

I'd be open for doing that, but won't have time to investigate in the near future. If you'd be up for doing a PR I'd be happy to release a new version with the change.
If you're still looking for a dart-sass compatible version, I just took over maintenance of lein-sass and created a major release that fully switches over to dart-sass.
I would have contributed the changes here, but I decided to make the library rely on dart-sass to do as much of the work as possible. That didn't seem to align with the direction of this project.
