Stylix + Ghostty not working

I see that ghostty is supported by stylix yet it doesn't seem to apply anything to the application - anyone gotten it to work?:

Left is kitty - right is ghostty, the goal is for ghostty to look like kitty does.

The Ghostty module was introduced in commit 6eb0597 and has not been backported to the release-24.11 branch, which is what you are tracking.

If the Ghostty has been backported to 24.11 in Nixpkgs and Home Manager, then we can also backport our support.

Ah ok I understand. Is there a way to use the Ghostty module via an unstable branch? And if so what would I have to change in my flake to make it work?

You could try mixing unstable and stable branches, although this is unsupported and most certainly will not work.

If the Ghostty has been backported to 24.11 in Nixpkgs and Home Manager, then we can also backport our support.

This is actually the case:

• [Backport 24.11] ghostty: add module nix-community/home-manager#6285

Could be doing something wrong - but I've updated and I don't get an error for setting stylix.targets.ghostty.enable = true; during rebuild. Although it still looks the same as in my previous screenshot.

home-manager:

Make sure you're installing Ghostty using programs.ghostty.enable, and not just by adding it to home.packages / environment.systemPackages

Ah that could be it! I'll try it later as soon as I can! Is program.X generally a more recent build than pkgs stable? .. less recent than unstable? Question from the unknowing haha

It's the same version as your nixpkgs flake input.

By using programs.X.enable, Stylix is able to change the settings for it using the other programs.X.Y options; if you just install the package, we can't do that.

You should be able to use Nixpkgs's backported Ghostty module: NixOS/nixpkgs#369046.

If you are using the Home Manager setup, it should also have been backported: nix-community/home-manager#6285.
