Hi all,

As of writing, last copilot.vim update is 3 months ago, Oct 8 2024
This is worrying as several features has been introduced after Oct 8 2024, such as bringing developer choice to GitHub Copilot with Anthropic’s Claude 3.5 Sonnet, Google’s Gemini 1.5 Pro, and OpenAI’s o1-preview and o1-mini.

How is it going?

And to add to that, there are no release notes (as far as I can tell) so you have no idea what happens anyway

I have the reason: they were working on an LSP that they released recently in https://github.blog/changelog/2025-02-10-copilot-language-server-sdk-is-now-available/

The LSP deprecates the use of the plug-in.

Fresh Copilot.vim release today. The LSP does not deprecate the use of the plugin.

Hi! Two questions:

1. Could you please add some release info/log so that users like me have any idea of what is happening? This is currently a black box.

2. Since you seem to have some knowledge, care to explain the relation between this and the new LSP? Even if it doesn't deprecate the use of the plugin, does it change anything? (eg. present an alternative, or is it consumed under the hood, or ... well, any comment appreciated).

It's consumed under the hood, specifically from the dist/ directory. The Copilot Language Server SDK brings the following to the table:

1. Documentation.
2. Frequent, automated releases.
3. Signed, standalone binaries. (They're omitted from the Copilot.vim distribution so the Git repository doesn't balloon to an unmanageable size.)

There is interest in this across the board, and it could happen, but the most I could single-handedly deliver would be for the Vim plugin itself, which has been pretty stable lately.
